Even though it doesn’t count for official wins and losses, every player on the field is still trying to make an impact. Last night, however, served as a humble reminder of how dangerous the game can be. The Lions-Falcons preseason game ended early after safety Morice Norris left the field in an ambulance. Detroit led 17-10 at the start of the fourth quarter. Falcons were driving down the field when Norris attempted to bring down Atlanta running back Nathan Carter with a low tackle. Norris, leading head first, made hard contact with Carter’s lower midsection. The force of the impact sent Norris’ head back awkwardly. He was seen motionless on the field immediately following the hit. Play stopped for around 20 minutes as medical personnel tended to Norris. Mack, who was born Kelley Klebenow, “passed away peacefully” in her hometown of Cincinatti on Saturday after battling glioma of the central nervous system, according to a statement posted on the social networking site CaringBridge. More than 7,000 cases of chikungunya have been reported in the Chinese province of Guangdong in recent weeks, with most in the southern city of Foshan. Reports from the region say those who are infected are being quarantined in hospital until they test negative for the virus, and workers are going to homes in Foshan to check for risk factors like standing water where mosquitoes can breed.
